His speech on the occasion is as follows :-
Your venerable, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,It is a matter of great honour indeed for me to be here on this particular occasion and I am very pleased to have an opportunity to deliver a speech as a specially – invited Chief Guest.
Our country Myanmar and India share not only long border line as close neighbours but also similar culture, traditions , history and especially in Buddhism.
Myanmar always attaches great importance to the relations with India, especially in Religious Affairs since Myanmars are strong and dedicated Buddhists and India is where our noblest, most respectful and scared Buddha was born. It is very encouraging to have learnt that there are hundreds of Myanmar Monks are studying in India totaling around 200. Moreover, Buddha Gaya, holy site of where Buddha was enlightened, attracts more and more Myanmar Visitors year after years. These demonstrates how much the relations between Myanmar and India developed recently.
It can be said that Venerable Bhadanta Anandamitra Mahathera played a memorial role in promoting existing friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries. Venerable Bhadanta Anandamitra Mahathera studied in Myanmar at the age of 25. He actively participated in 6th Council (Sanghayan) held in Yangon in 1954, and visited various sacred places of Myanmar, then.
Even current Sanganayaka Venerable Dr. Dhammaviriyo was born in Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar and studied in Myanmar as well.
Venerable Mahathera had expired from earth. However, we are sure that his historic endeavors in promoting Buddhism in India and brilliant glory will never diminish as long as the world exists on this Universe and it will be ever glittering for sure.
We all are here today in this special ceremony and conference to pay tribute once again to Venerable Mahathera and I firmly believe that the existing friendly and cooperative relations between Myanmar and India will be ever-lasting and even growing further years to come and Venerable Mahathera would bless from a peaceful and noble place for it.
Thank you very much.
